Westborough, MA, June 18, 2024— Eastern Dentists Insurance Company (EDIC) announced today that Stephen McKenna, DMD has been elected as Chair of the Board of Directors effective June 2, 2024. EDIC is a leading provider of dental professional liability insurance in the Northeast and mid-Atlantic states.

Dr. McKenna, an EDIC Board Director since 2003, has played a crucial role in EDIC’s success. Dr. McKenna hails from a long line of orthodontists, with the first McKenna Orthodontics office opening in 1918, McKenna Orthodontics is potentially the oldest continuously operated orthodontics practice in the country. He has received numerous awards, has held leadership roles in organizations including The Massachusetts Dental Society, Massachusetts Association of Orthodontists, Valley District Dental Society, and is a member of the American Dental Association, American Association of Orthodontics, Northeast Society of Orthodontics, Pierre Fauchard Academy, American College of Dentists and the International College of Dentists.

Dr. McKenna, a Tufts University School of Dental Medicine graduate with postgraduate studies in orthodontics and a pediatric residency at New England Medical Center, resides with his wife Ellen in Longmeadow, MA. He has three adult children, including a daughter, Catherine, who is a general dentist in Boston. Dr. McKenna and his business partner, Dr. Michael Caban, operate five orthodontic offices in central Massachusetts.

Westborough, MA, July 20, 2022 — EDIC, a leading provider of dental professional liability insurance, announced today the retirement of CEO and President Sheila A. Anzuoni, Esq. after thirty years of service. Prior to Ms. Anzuoni’s appointment as CEO and President, she served as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of EDIC and Eastern Dental Insurance Agency (EDIA). The EDIC Board of Directors appointed Edward J. Carroll, Esq. to succeed Ms. Anzuoni as the new president and chief executive officer effective July 25, 2022.

On behalf of the Board of Directors, the management team, and EDIC staff, we want to thank Ms. Anzuoni for her leadership and her indelible impact on EDIC’s success. Involved in the medical
malpractice industry for over forty years, Ms. Anzuoni formerly served as the General Manager of the Rhode Island Medical Malpractice Unit Joint Underwriting Association while employed with Johnson &  Higgins. She also worked as part of the administrative and legal staff of Massachusetts General Hospital. “Since the company’s inception, Ms. Anzuoni’s devotion and contributions to EDIC are indescribable with regard to their depth and importance. She helped establish a culture at the company that fostered loyalty, communication, and collaboration among the staff and the Board. The relationships she built over the years with our collective business partners enabled EDIC to become the successful company it is today. In 2019, when she assumed the position of CEO, she guided EDIC seamlessly through the change in leadership. She also shepherded the company and our member dentists through the COVID pandemic. She has earned the respect and eternal gratitude of the EDIC Board and we wish her only the best as she enters her retirement,” stated Richard LoGuercio, DDS, EDIC Board Chair.

“I am so grateful for the trust that Dr. Charles Hapcook and the EDIC Board of Directors placed in me thirty years ago as we started this journey,” said Ms. Anzuoni. “I am equally as grateful for the EDIC team over the past decade as we worked together to establish EDIC as the premier provider in the dental malpractice industry. I leave knowing EDIC is in great hands with Mr. Carroll and wish him luck as he steps into his new position. It has been an honor to serve the EDIC community and its member dentists. The CEO transition begins July 25, 2022. “After a nationwide search facilitated by a well-known executive search firm, the EDIC Search Committee presented two final candidates to the EDIC Board. We are pleased to announce that the Board voted to elect Mr. Edward J. Carroll, Esq., as the new CEO and President of EDIC. We are confident that the enthusiasm and expertise that Mr. Carroll brings will usher EDIC to new horizons,” said Dr. LoGuercio.

With over twenty-five years of experience in the medical malpractice industry, Mr. Carroll comes to EDIC as the former Vice President of Underwriting for ISMIE Mutual Insurance Company, based in Chicago. Prior to ISMIE, Mr. Carroll was the Director of Underwriting for Connecticut Medical Insurance Company (CMIC). Before joining CMIC, Mr. Carroll spent twelve years at Chubb Specialty Insurance Company as a Senior Underwriting Officer. Mr. Carroll practiced law in Springfield, MA before entering the insurance industry and holds a bachelor’s degree from Georgetown University and a juris doctor, magna cum laude, from Western New England University. He is currently licensed as an attorney in Connecticut and resides in Longmeadow, MA with his family.
